Dear Senator Mitchell,

My name is Matthew Winick with a strong interest in studying history with political science and world culture. I strongly find these subjects to be interesting because I like to learn how famous people along with minorities, gender, people with disabilities, and different orientation who work hard to make a difference and to end discrimination, the need to protect the environment with using clean alternative energy with energy efficient products to reduce cost and pollution, the need for human rights and peace negotiations to reduce oppression and conflicts with other countries. Senator Mitchell I am proud of your bipartisan work as Senate Majority Leader in 1989-1995 on the Americans With Disabilities Act and The Clean Air Act of 1990 by having both parties come together to pass these legislations. The American With Disabilities Act helped benefit me for the future and life because I have Autism with a learning disability and it is hard having a disability. The ADA that you, Republican Senator Bob Dole, Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy with Tom Harkin really helped me benefit to get an education by creating special education group which helped me with catching up on homework, having a T.A. to help me and to protect me from being teased or be judged by other people from elementary school to high school, also this act helped me with getting accommodations in school including college like extra time on exams including homework, take exams in a different setting to reduce distractions, and record lectures to help me take notes.  The ADA also helped give me confidence about learning and to go into public because the main goal of the legislation is to protect people with disabilities from discrimination in education, transportation, and public places. Thank you for your hard work as Senate Majority Leader with Republican Senator Bob Dole, Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy with Tom Harkin to make this legislation to become law and to help protect against discrimination.

Senator Mitchell I find your work on foreign affairs really inspiring to me because I believe that there is a strong need for peace to reduce tensions with other countries and to reduce a chance to go into war. When you served in U.S Special Envoy for North Ireland I was amazed on how led a commission for principle of non-violence  for all The North Ireland parties and this lead to Belfast Peace Agreement which ended conflict. I want to say congrats for you receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom and The Liberty Medal.  Your quote “I believe there’s no such thing as a conflict that can’t be ended. They’re created and sustained by human beings. They can be ended by human beings. No matter how ancient the conflict, no matter how hateful, no matter how hurtful, peace can prevail.” Really gives me confidence and hope that there can be peace in the future. Also I want to say thank you for doing your best to work on trying to get a Middle East peace. Your work as a Senate Majority Leader and as peace maker really inspires me to find new ideas to make history a better place, to have hope, and have a strong interest in history.  Also I am amazed how you started Bipartisan Policy Center where you educate people to work together with share your ideas. Thank you for your hard work, helping pass a legislation which help benefit me, working on peace negotiations, and making a great difference in the world with your achievements.  By the way I am sending you a bio of my life with my ideas for the future to you so you can read and I even explain how your work on American With Disabilities Act help benefit me.  I hope someday I can get a chance to meet you so you can help me with advice to understand more about peace.

Dear Senator Lugar,

My name is Matthew Winick who has a strong interest in studying history, political science, world culture, and some business. I love studying these subjects because I have a strong interest in learning how society works, finding new ideas to make a world a better place. Recognize famous people including minorities, gender, people with disabilities, and people with different orientation to make a world a better place by advocating to end discrimination, and the need for human rights including reduction of nuclear weapons treaty to reduce war. When you were in the Senate I was amazed, moved, and proud for your leadership by joining Senator Ted Kennedy, Tom Harkin, George Mitchell, and Bob Dole to help pass American’s With Disability Act of 1990. I have autism with learning disability and it is hard for me with a disability because I have trouble comprehending subjects. The Americans with Disability Act helped benefit me because it helped me get an education in school, help protect me from discrimination, and helped give me to confidence to overcome my struggles. It helped me by  having special education group help me with catching up on homework, having a T.A. to help me with subjects from elementary school to high school, also this act helped me with getting accommodations in school including college like extra time on exams including homework, take exams in a different setting to reduce distractions, and record lectures to help me take notes.   Thank you Senator Lugar for your assistance on this important legislation with both parties.  

Also In the Senate I truly respect you and your work as a moderate by supporting hate crime legislation to protect people who are different from hate crime, help protect the environment by using clean alternative energy with clean biofuel and energy efficient products to reduce pollution, and you work on immigration reform to help immigrants along with refugees to be protected from oppressive government. Your work on The Senate Foreign Relations Committee really amazed me by your work on getting Senators from both parties to help support human rights and reduce nuclear weapons. In my history class I enjoy learning how you teamed up with Democratic Senator Sam Nunn on Nunn-Lugar Act where the goal was to reduce with dismantle on nuclear weapons. Also later on your work with then Senator Barack Obama on Lugar- Obama Nuclear Proliferation Act where it reduce missiles and help the state department improve the ability to detect WMDs and other weapons. My dream is for a world to be a better place where there can be peace and reduction of nuclear missiles. My future goal is to plan on teaching history to help bring people together on ideas, help them understand the need for bipartisan, advance on Civil Rights to end discrimination, and the need for human rights and reduction of nuclear weapons to make a world a safe place.  Thank you for your hard work being a bipartisan Senator to make a world a better place. Dear President Bush,

My name is Matt Winick. I am a student at Washtenaw Community College studying world history, U.S. History, Criminal Justice, and some business. The reason I like to study history is because I like to learn how famous people who do good work to help the world, find ways to help improve the country with ideas, learn not to repeat the same mistakes, and look for president’s goals with their achievements which made an impact on this country. History and most famous people inspire me to think of good things, motivate me to learn, and help the community.

        When you were president I liked when you signed the Disability Act of 1990 for the disabled people including me. I have autism with a learning disability.  With this act it helps people who have a disability have a chance in life and helps them for the future along with protecting them from discrimination. This act really benefited me because it helped me have a teacher assistant for elementary school to high school, have special education help me with learning on different subjects, and having fair accommodations like recording lectures with taking time on exams helped me with going to college to get an education.  The Americans With Disability Act of 1990 made me feel safe and to help me fit with other people. This act is helping many people with disability from being discriminated in education, jobs, and housing.

        Besides the American With Disability Act of 1990 I enjoy learning about how as a one-term president like you made great achievements like Clean Air Act of 1990 which required cleaning burning fuel with to reduce carbon emissions and allow for clean with alternative energy.  Radiation Exposure Compensation Act which help people who got cancer from working on nuclear testing with compensation. Immigration Act of 1990 which helped fix visas and improve on immigration quotas with student Visas. Civil Rights Act of 1991 which help protect employee’s rights from being discriminated in a workplace. Along with having a budget which had some increased revenue with some spending cuts which helped the economy. Your “Points of Light” speech along with creating the Points of Light Foundation to help promote volunteerism made an impact on my life to help my community. I am a current volunteer at Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, a children’s museum in Michigan. As a volunteer at the museum I help teach children to learn how

to do hands on activities with teaching them through demonstrations and work with other volunteers to help perform task.

I wrote a short memoir on how you made an impact on my life with your legislation to help end discrimination for people with disabilities. I hope you get a chance to read my story. Thank you for your hard work to help America including people like me with your achievements.

Dear Judge O’Connor,

My name is Matthew Winick who is a college student at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI. My favorite subjects to study are history, government, criminal justice, and some business.  The reason I like studying these subjects is that I want to learn about how society works, the need for reforms for the Criminal Justice System including the court system, checks and balances when dealing with crime while protect people’s civil liberties, and the need for Civil Right to protect people who are different like minorities, gender, people with disability, and people with different orientation to be protected from discrimination. Justice O’Connor I took a class in the winter semester called Intro To Criminal Justice. The class was interesting and had a great instructor. In the class I got to learn about how the court system works, some of the Supreme Court  Cases, understand civil liberties along with Miranda rights, different laws dealing with crime, and some of how law enforcement works. These things helped me work on creating new ideas to reform the Criminal Justice system.  My ideas to reform the system are like more right for juveniles when charged with a crime, alternative programs with education, community service, and therapy groups to help victimless offenders along with drug users from re-offending their crime, more educational programs like DARE to help address the need to reduce gun violence and drug abuse, and extend laws to protect people who are different from hate crime or prejudice.

Justice O’Connor I am inspired by your work in the Supreme Court. In the Supreme Court I was amazed by how you became the first woman to serve on the court, you help protect the fourth amendment by opposing other groups who want to invade people’s privacy, your ruling on McConnell V. FEC on regulating soft money for elections, and your courage to help protect people who are different from discrimination based on their race, gender, disability, or their sexual orientation. Your ruling on these issues really shows what a judge can do to make a difference.  Your website Our Courts and later ICivics helped benefit me to learn about the courts and government’s role through games, lesson plans, and interactive ways. Your website gave me great motivation to learn about government, criminal justice system, and history. Also the website helped me pass my government classes in middle school and high school. Justice O’Connor I want to say congratulations on winning the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama. My goal in the future is to work as a teacher or in a museum or in an organization to help people with express the need for judicial reform and the need to protect civil liberties and motivate people including students to be motivated to learn how government can play a good role in society, the need to expand on Civil Rights to combat discrimination, and the need to make the criminal justice system better. Dear Dalai Lama,

My name is Matthew Winick and I have a strong interest in history and world culture to understand not to repeat the same mistakes in the past and to learn more about how different people with diversity help shape the world with their culture. I’m a Christian, but I enjoy studying about Buddhism because I like their ideas. Your beliefs with your ideas really inspire me. We both share the same ideas like need to help the poor, believe in equal rights for everyone no matter what background they are from, human rights, and peace to end conflicts in the world. Your speeches and spreading ideas made me feel proud because we need more people coming out to help support people and help inspire people to not give up hope. Some times I dream of a world to be a better place where there is peace instead of wars and conflicts, people affording health care, poor getting help in order survive, people having equal rights with human rights from discrimination along with oppressive government, and protecting the environment to help improve better life quality for people along with animals from pollution. When I wake up every day I find life is hard for me because I get teased by people because I'm different. I work hard to do the best as I can and to help other people. Currently I’m a volunteer at a children’s museum to help teach children by doing hands on science demonstrations because I strongly believe that an education is a right, not a privilege no matter what preference people come from. As Asian American, volunteer, student, and an idealist I strongly believe in peace, human rights with equal rights for everyone, protect the environment for better quality of life, and to help the poor who are struggling. Dear Mr. Asner,

My name is Matthew Winick and I am a fan of your acting. I enjoyed seeing you play on the tv series Lou Grant and The Mary Tyler Moore show. Also I enjoy your voice performance on the animated tv series like Spiderman, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, The Boondocks and the gargoyles animated series. My favorite animated show was Gargoyles and I really liked how you made Hudson an interesting character in the show and helped me understand more about his character.   In 2009 I went to the movie theaters and saw the Disney/ Pixar movie called Up.  Up is one of my recent favorite Disney movies. Mr. Asner I really thought that you did a great job voicing Carl Fredricksen in the movie. The reason I liked the Disney movie Up is because I really like the plot where a young boy named Russell meets Carl and they start being friends and go on the journey. The movie really had a great storyline and it was emotional. I felt sorry about Carl in the movie because he lost his wife. However I felt moved because the movie was able to give Carl a chance to have a new friend and continue on life to find happiness. I really think that you really made a Disney movie a fun and creative.  Mr. Asner thank you for reading my letter and best wishes on your acting career.
