Dear Honorable Clemon,

My name is Matthew Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in history with public policy. In these subjects I like to learn the need to advance on Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from being discriminated,  protect the environment from pollution, have criminal justice reform to make the system work for the people while reducing crime, and many others.  Honorable Clemon, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as Civil Rights activist, as Alabama State Senator, and as Chief Judge of The United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama to be very inspiring to me.

During the 1960s Civil Rights Era, I was very proud on how you had the courage to march with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr to protest against segregation in Alabama and how you, DR. MLK, and many Civil Rights Activists help desegregate Birmingham Public Library which allow African Americans to go into a library with whites.  After you graduated from New York Columbia Law School, I liked on how you decided to practice Civil Rights law where you dealt with school desegregation cases, helped desegregate the University of Alabama’s football, and bring employment discrimination cases against some of the employers in Alabama that discriminated people based on race.  In 1974, I was amazed on how you made history by becoming one of the first two blacks to be elected to the Alabama Senate since Reconstruction.  In your role as Alabama State Senator, I am very proud on how you continue your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights to help protect minorities, women, and people with disabilities from being discriminated. Also when you were in the Alabama Senate, I liked on how you used your role as Chairman of the Rules Committee and as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee to have the courage to challenge Governor Wallace’s discrimination policies like exclusion of black citizens from state board including agencies and discriminating against people with disabilities.   In 1980, I liked on how you accepted President Jimmy Carter to appoint you to serve as Chief Judge of The United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama to help improve Civil Rights and make the judicial system better. When you served as Chief Judge of The United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama in 1980 to 2009, I am proud on how you reformed the court system by increasing minorities, women, and people with disabilities to work in the workforce of the court, push for electronic case filing to help improve data recording for different cases, and expand on Jury-friendly with representative jury plan education to help educate the public about how the jury system works including the process of the court system. Another thing that I liked about your work as Chief Justice was on how you strongly advocated for people with disabilities’ rights, supported the need for women to have equal pay to reduce discrimination in pay, and expressed with supported the need to make Civil Rights laws stronger to help combat against discrimination.

Honorable Clemon, I have Autism with a learning disability.  Having Autism is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.   Also as an Asian American along with being mixed race with a disability I struggle because people from different race including Asians and Asian Americans. However, your commitment to make Civil Rights a better place, combat against discrimination policies, and advocate for people with disabilities’ rights inspires me to work hard on my disability.   Also your work as a Civil Rights activist, as a Civil Rights attorney, as a Alabama State Senator, and as Chief Judge motivates me to be interested in learning history.  The main reason I like history, learn about how famous people like you, and study Civil Rights Era   is because it helps give me confidence to work hard at different struggles I face, learn on the need to make social justice a better place, understand how diversity is an important core value,  and  a strong need to make Civil Rights a better place for all people who are different.  My future goal is to someday teach history or work in a museum to help emphasize the need for equality, how Civil Rights is important to end discrimination, and many others.  In 2012, I visited the MLK Museum in Atlanta, Georgia where I enjoyed learning about MLK with many other Civil Rights activists like you, learn more about how discrimination hurt many people who are different, how Civil Rights overcame different challenges, and took my time to pay my respect to MLK and his wife at their burial site.

Honorable Clemon, I strongly believe that you made a great difference for history, society, and Civil Rights. I’m heavily proud and very moved on how you worked so hard to make Civil Rights a better place for people who are different like me. You have truly made a great impact on me to work hard on my disability, find ways to work hard at overcoming different challenges that I face,  and to be motivated to learn history.  Here is a picture of me as a gift to you for inspiring me.  I was wondering if you could please share with me what it was being a Civil Rights activist in the 1960s and explain your favorite achievements as Chief Justice.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, making a huge great difference in history with Civil Rights, and inspiring me.  I wish you well for the future and to continue to advocate to make Civil Rights a better place.

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in studying history and public policy. What I like to learn for these subjects is the need to advance on Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from being discriminated, protect the environment from pollution, improve public safety to make it safe for people, and many others.  The main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as Mayor of Shawnee, Kansas to be very inspiring to me.

In 2015, I was amazed on how you became the first woman to become Mayor of Shawnee, Kansas. In your current role as Mayor, I like on how you are a strong supporter of protecting women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in education, public places, and jobs. Also on Civil Rights I like on how you advocate for people with disabilities’ rights and working to help women along with minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy.  On the economy, I liked on how you along with city government work with different businesses to find ways to improve better customer services to improve relations between consumers, customers and businesses along with making products safer for people to use.  Also on improving government relations between the community and citizens, I like on how you work on community engagement called Third Thursdays where citizens along with different organizations can share their ideas or concerns to help improve their communities, improve technology services like city website Shawnee Connect mobile app to help citizens file reports on different problems where they can get an update, and make social media be efficient to communicate with people to help them understand city news or ask Q&A to the Mayor to understand issues.  Fixing roads to reduce potholes, adding traffic signals to roads to help reduce accidents, having city services partner with emergency services like police and fire department to find ways to improve their services to protect people, and creating Street improvement Task Force to work on finding ways to make transportation safety a priority or work on finding ways to make sidewalks with bike paths available to citizens are great ideas to improve public safety.  Another thing the I like about your work as current mayor is how you push for more volunteering programs to help youth along with adults help improve the community, fund special education to help students with disabilities get the educational accommodations they need to learn, provide funds for the arts with history to help teach people about diversity or how history play a role in society, and help push for funds to clean parks to reduce pollution along with making them safe for people to use.

Mayor Distler, I have Autism with a learning disability. My future goal is to someday teach history to help emphasize the need to make Civil Rights stronger, express the need to make government work with the people to find solutions to reduce problems, and many others.   My letter is also a gift to you for inspiring me and to help you continue being motivated to continue making community with society a better place.

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in learning history and public policy. In these subjects I like to learn the need to advance Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from being discriminated, protect the environment from pollution, find ways to improve to community to make them safe for people, and many others. The main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as current Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, I like on how you are a strong supporter of protecting women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in public places, jobs, and education. Also on Civil Rights I am very proud on how you are a strong advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, support funding women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy, and express the need for women to have equal pay to help end discrimination in pay based on gender.  On education, I like on how you fund special education to help students with disabilities get educational accommodations they need to learn, fund the arts program in schools to help youth get engage in learning, implement Project Reads to help early children develop literacy skills, push for afterschool programs to provide tutors to help youth on learning different materials, and promote volunteering programs to help youth get involve in helping the community. Your commitment to make education and youth causes a better place is common sense and a great idea to make society better when both political parties ignore these values.  On the environment, I am very proud on how you are a strong supporter of funding renewable energy projects to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, expand environmental education to help educate people about the need to protect the environment along with understand the need to reduce pollution, and provide funds to help clean parks including rivers or water resources to make them safe for people to use.  Another thing that I like about your current work as Mayor is how you provide funds to help protect historical sites around Jackson, Mississippi to help preserve them to help educate people along with tourist about history and how history played a role in society.  Working to fix roads to help reduce vehicle accidents, improving transportation services to help people with disabilities get access to traveling, and fixing water pipes to help people get access to water safely are great ways to improve public safety to make them safe for people.

Mayor Yarber, I have Autism with a learning disability. Having Autism is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning subjects especially new things, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights, be an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, and support funding special education really inspires me to work hard on my disability. Also being a Christian with a disability is hard for me because some Christians along with other people tease me about having a disability. When I get teased or being judged about having a disability I lost faith.  Your role as a pastor on preaching for the need to not promote hate against people with different background or a disability, the need to help the poor, and the need to make Civil Rights stronger really inspires me to work hard on my disability, learn the need to help the poor, and to continue having faith as a Christian with a disability when I struggle with different challenges.  Your work as Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi motivates me to continue my interest in learning history along with public policy.  My future goal is to someday teach people about the need to make Civil Rights stronger to reduce discrimination, need for diversity to make society better, and express the need to make social justice a better place for people who are different.

Mayor Yarber, I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your current role.  I’m very proud on how you work hard to help the community including education, Civil Rights, and youth causes become a better place.  You have truly inspired me to work hard on Autism, continue being proud to be a Christian with a disability with having faith when times are hard, and continue my interest in learning history.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make great achievements when there are challenges, and inspiring me.  Please feel free to share my letter with your family and the rest of your staff. The main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as Mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as Mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota I like on how you are a strong supporter of protecting women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in education, public places, and jobs.  Also on Civil Rights, I am very proud on how you advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, helping Native American communities get funding, support funding women with minorities’ businesses to help them compete in the economy, and express the need to improve women’s rights. I like your commitment to improve education by funding special education to help students with disabilities get the educational accommodations they need, fund the arts with history to help make education diverse, and implement youth programs to help youth get engage in learning with getting help on learning or help the community.  Hiring police officers, fixing roads with highways to reduce accidents, and expanding training programs to help firefighters, law enforcement, and other rescue responders improve their skills to make them efficient when there is an emergency are great ways to improve public safety.  On the environment, I like on how you support funding renewable energy projects to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, provide funding to help clean up parks, rivers, and drinking water to help make them safe for people, and promote businesses to use energy efficient products to help reduce high energy cost.  Another thing that I like about your work as Mayor is working to improve tourism by supporting funds to help preserve historical sites along with national parks to help protect them from being disturbed including making learning history a great tool, fixing airports to help make them accommodating for passengers or tourists, and working with different businesses to find ways to improve to city to make them environmentally friendly to people.

Having Autism is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects especially new things, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights and advocate for people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  Also your role as Mayor of Sioux Falls and your commitment to help preserve historical sites with national parks motivates me to continue my interest in learning history along with public policy. My future goal is to someday teach history to help teach people about the need to make Civil Rights stronger with the need to make society better or work in public policy to help create common sense ideas to make society better. My letter is a gift to you for inspiring me and as a gift for your birthday July 24^th.   

Mayor Huether, I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your current role as Mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota on different issues.  I’m very proud on how you work hard to make society a better place. You have truly inspired me to work hard on my disability, continue to learn different subjects when I face obstacles, and be motivated to continue my interest in learning history.
