Dear Governor Padilla,

My name is Matthew Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan  with a strong interest in studying history, world culture, and government. These subjects are my favorite to learn the need to advance on Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from being discriminated, protect the environment from pollution, and many others. Governor Padilla, I find your work as current Governor of Puerto Rico to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as 11th Governor of Puerto Rico, I like your commitment to be a strong supporter of advancing on Civil Rights to help protect women, minorities, and people with disabilities to be protected from being discriminated in public places, jobs, and education. Also on Civil Rights, I like on how you are an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, support equal pay to help protect women from being discriminated based on pay, express the need to protect LGBT people from being discriminated based on their sexual orientation.  On the environment, I’m proud of your commitment to protect the environment by support funding renewable energy (solar, wind, biofuel, and energy efficient) products to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, preserving national parks with historical sites to help educate people, and supply fund to help clean up parks including beaches to help protect people from pollution including improve tourism. Another thing that I like about your work as current Governor of Puerto Rico is on how you are an advocate for social justice like the need to improve treatment programs to help victims of domestic violence or drug users get the care they need, expand health care for people who are low-income, and improve community services to help youth stay away from crime.  Also I like on how you are a strong advocate for strengthening consumer protection laws to help protect middle class, consumers, and small businesses from being targeted with fraud by the financial institutions.

Governor Padilla, I have Autism with a learning disability. Having Autism is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects especially new subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of advancing Civil Rights, funding special education to help people with disabilities, and advocate with support people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on Autism. Your work as current Governor of Puerto Rico inspire me continue my interest in learning history. My future goal is to someday teach people about the need to improve society with the need for equal rights to end discrimination or work in public policy to help create good ideas to make society better. Also your work on advocating for the need to improve social justice motivates me to be interested in learning about the need to make social justice a better place for people who are different or who come from different economic classes.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your current role as Governor of Puerto Rico on different issues. Even though you are not running for re-election, I’m very proud on how you work hard to make great achievements and being an advocate for Civil Rights including social justice and consumer protection.  You have truly inspired me to work hard on my disability, continue my interest in learning history, and be motivated to learn about the need to improve social justice.  I hope my letter can help you continue being motivated to continue working hard to make society better when times are hard. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, making great achievements as Governor, and inspiring me. I wish you well to continue your role as Governor of Puerto Rico.

Sincerely,

Matthew B. Winick
