Dear Mayor Turner,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history and public policy. In these subjects I like to learn the need to advance on Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, improve public safety to make communities safer, and many others. Mayor Turner, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as 62^nd Mayor of Houston, Texas to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as Mayor of Houston, Texas I am very proud on how you are a strong supporter of advancing Civil Rights to help protect women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in education, public places, and jobs.  Also on Civil Rights, I like on how you are an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, support funding women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy, expand funds to minorities communities to help their communities get the care they need, support LQBT rights to help protect them from being discriminated based on their orientation, express the need for equal pay for women to help protect them from being discriminated in pay based on gender.  Hiring police officers to help patrol the city, implementing community policing to have law enforcement work with the community to reduce tensions between them, pushing for the need to reduce racial profiling to help protect minorities or people with different background from being discriminated by law enforcement, funding treatment programs to help drug users get the care they need, and providing community service to help rehabilitate non-violent juveniles including non-violent offenders to help them from re-offending are great ways to reform the criminal justice system while reduce crime.  On education, I like on how you funded special education to help students with disabilities get educational accommodations to help them learn better, expand after school programs to help youth get help on their assignments, and provide funding for the arts including history to help make education diverse for learning.  Your commitment to protect the environment like funding renewable energy projects to help reduce addiction to oil with gas and providing funds to clean parks including water resources to make them safe for people to use.  In order to improve the economy, I am very proud on how you expanded on job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop job-skills to help them be prepared for the workforce, encourage business including small businesses to use energy efficient projects to help reduce high energy cost, and reduce high fees for small businesses to help them be part of the community. Another thing that I like about your current role as Mayor is how you are a strong advocate for making social justice better by expressing the need to help low-income people get the care they need, make healthcare stronger for people who can’t afford health insurance or have a pre-existing conditions get the care they need, make Civil Rights stronger, the need for reform in government to make it work for the people, and many others.

Mayor Turner, I have Autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  When I struggle with a disability sometimes I lose confidence in myself. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights and be an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability and learn the need to work hard on overcoming different challenges.  Your advocacy for the need to make social justice a better place motivates me to learn the need for social justice to be a better place for people who are different or from a different class by reading different articles, watching documentaries about the topic, and studying people who advocate for these ideas. Also your work as current Mayor of Houston really motivates me to continue my interest in learning history. My future goal is to someday teach history or work in a museum to emphasize the need to make society a better place and to make social justice a better place for people who are different.    

Mayor Turner, I believe that you are making a great difference in your role as Mayor. Also I’m proud on how you work hard to continue to make a great difference in Civil Rights, social justice, and many others.  You have inspire me to continue to work hard on my disability, be motivated to continue my interest in learning history, and become interested in learning the need to make social justice a better place.  Here is a picture of me as a gift to you for inspiring me.. Dear Ms. Ming-Na Wen

My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American and I am a fan of your acting in Mulan, a Disney movie and in different T.V. Shows.   In Mulan, I thought you did an excellent job voicing including portraying Mulan because I really liked on how you made her into an interesting Dinsey character by expanding on Mulan’s trait on being a woman who works hard to overcome a struggle to get recognized for working hard to help defend her city with the troops from the Huns or to fit in with other society.  I really enjoyed the story of Mulan because it had a great plot about Mulan working to overcome her struggles, enjoyed seeing the mix between actions, drama, and comedy, and really liked the team up of Mushu, a dragon helping Mulan on her journey with giving motivation to work hard on overcoming different obstacles.  I thought you, Eddie Murphy, and B.D. Wong did a great job making Mulan into a great Disney movies.  After Watching Mulan I became a fan of your acting role in different tv series.  I really liked watching ER and I consider Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen one of my favorite characters because I really like on how she works to overcome her struggles in the medical profession on learning medicine and how she develops a great friendship with Dr. John Carter even though they might disagree about medical work. I though you did a great job portraying Dr. Chen on the show.   In 2013, I got very excited to hear that you were going to star in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because I really like on how you have a great balance as an actress on making your characters in different movies including tv shows  on making them have courage and working to overcome their obstacle.  In Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I really like on how you make Melinda May an interesting character who is loyal to her boss Mr. Coulson including her team on different missions even though she is working hard to overcome a trauma.

Ms. Ming-Na, your work on voicing with acting as Mulan really inspired me to work hard on overcoming different struggles including my disability. I have Autism with a learning disability and having a disability is hard because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, have trouble with speech when communicating with other people, and sometimes I get teased by other people about it.  When I have struggles with these things I watch Mulan because the movie gives a great message about working to overcome a struggle and have courage to show people that you are capable or that you deserve to fit in.  Also when I watch the movie I like seeing how Mulan works hard at overcoming different obstacles with working to find ways not to give up because it teaches me the same time to find ways to help me when I struggle. Another thing is I like on how you are an activist on helping Asian American including Asian communities get recognized for their work or help them work on overcoming their struggles. Your work on helping Asians including Asian Americans inspires me to be proud of being an Asian American and to be interested in learning history including culture when I get teased by other Asians including Asian Americans due to having a disability.  

I am proud to call you one of my favorite actress for movies including tv shows and a true role model because you really made an impact on me to be inspired to be proud to be an Asian American, to work hard on Autism, and to have the courage to work hard at overcoming different obstacles.  Also I’m very proud of you for working hard on portraying with voicing Mulan in Mulan Disney because you made her a strong character with a great trait to work hard at overcoming obstacles and I’m am very proud to call Mulan one of my favorite Disney movies. Here is a picture of me with my favorite Disney character Mulan at Disney Epcot as a gift to you for inspiring me. Ms. Ming-Na, thanks for taking the time to read my letter, taking time to respond, working hard in acting in movies like Mulan including different tv shows, and inspiring me to work hard at not giving up when there are struggles. My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in learning history with public policy. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for Civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, improve public safety, and many others. Mayor Warren, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as Mayor of Newton, Massachusetts to be very inspiring to me.

 In January 2010, I was amazed on how you made history by becoming the first African American to become Mayor in Massachusetts.  I’m very proud on how are a strong supporter of protecting women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in education and public places.  Also on Civil Rights, I really appreciate on how you are an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights,  push for the need to make Newton, Massachusetts to be a sanctuary city to help protect immigrants including refuges from being oppressed,  support funds to help women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy,  express support for LGBT rights, and emphasize the need for equal pay for women.  Expanding on job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop job-skills to help prepare them for the economy, creating an initiative “Economic Growth for All” to find ways to help people who are poor including find ways to improve housing with other economic issues, and encouraging businesses to hire women, minorities, and people with disabilities to work are great ways to improve the economy.  On social justice, I like on how you are continuing to work with law enforcement to reduce racial profiling to protect minorities or immigrants, from being persecuted without probable cause and establishing the Empath pilot program to help people who are low-income with children get access to housing, and pushing for treatment programs to help drug-users get the care they need so they won’t get addicted again.  Your approach on protecting the environment while sustaining it like cutting down unhealthy trees including replant healthy ones to improve “The Garden City” city lifestyle, pushing for renewable energy sources to reduce addiction to oil with gas, launching new-community-share solar program to provide low-income families with energy efficient products for their homes to reduce high energy cost, and providing funds to clean with maintain parks including water resources to keep them safe for people to use are great ways to protect the environment.   Fund special education to help students with disabilities get educational resources or accommodations they need to learn, push for funds for arts including diversity classes to make learning diverse for people to learn, and expand after school programs to help youth get help on their assignments is common sense to improve education reform.    Another thing that I like about your role as Mayor of Newton, MA is how you are working to improve public safety by fixing potholes on roads including expanding bike paths including sidewalks to keep pedestrians safe and preserving with restoring historical sites to make learning a better place.

Mayor Warren, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights and your continuous advocacy for people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.   Another thing is your work on finding ways to improve on social justice drives me to have an interest in learning the importance of the need to improve social justice by watching documentaries including read some short articles that focus on the need to create programs to help people who are poor or low-income,  the need for criminal justice reform, and many others. Another thing is your work as Mayor of  Newton, Massachusetts motivates me to continue my interest in learning history with public policy. My future goals are to continue to learn how different U.S. Mayors including you work hard to make a great impact, visit some historical sites or attractions to help me engage in learning, and write to more U.S. Mayors to explain how I find their work to be very inspiring to me. My letter is also a gift to you for inspiring me and to wish you a Happy Birthday for May 15^th.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your current role. I recently heard that you decided not to run for re-election, however I strongly believe that you really made a great difference on social justice, Civil Rights, environmental protection, and many others. You have inspired me to work hard on my disability, learn the importance of social justice, and to continue my interest in learning different subjects. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me.  I wish you well to continue to make a positive impact on society before you leave office.

In December 2011, I was amazed on how you made history by becoming the first female to become Mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee. In your current role as Mayor of Knoxville, I like on how you are very committed to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights to help protect women, minorities, and people with disabilities from being discriminated in education and public places.  Also on Civil Rights, I like on how you advocate for people with disabilities’ rights, express the need for equal pay for women to help protect them from being discriminated based on gender, work with women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy, and provide funds for minorities communities to help improve their community.  Your approach to improve education by funding special education to help students with disabilities’ get educational accommodations they need to help them learn, pushing for more arts programs including diversity classes to help teach people about the need for diversity in society, supporting early childhood education including reading literacy programs to help improve youth’s comprehension, and expanding after school programs to help them get assistance from tutors on their assignments is common sense.  I like your commitment to improve youth causes by working with city services including other non-profit organizations to help promote volunteering programs to help engage youth to help their community and work on creating internships for the Mayor’s office to help teach high school students about how city government works.  On the environment protection, your approach on improving it like working to improve recycling services including trash services in neighborhoods to help reduce trash litter in a community, expanding on environmental education to help teach people about the need to protect the environment, supporting renewable energy projects to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, and providing funds to help clean up parks including water resources to make them safe for people to use.  On the economy, I really like on how you continue to expand on job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop job-skills to prepare them for the economy, create an economic development committee to find ways to improve the economy around Knoxville, TN, and encourage businesses to hire women, minorities, people with disabilities, and people who are LGBT.  Another thing that I like about your role as Mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee is how you are very committed to help recognize people who are different for making a great difference for the community and support funds to help preserve historical sites including museums with attractions to help make learning a better place for history including improve tourism.
