Dear Mayor James,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in learning history with public policy. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for Civil Rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, improve public safety,  protect the environment form pollution, and many others.  Mayor James, the main reason, I’m writing you a letter is to explain about my visit to Kansas City, Missouri and how I find your role as 54th Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as 54th Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, I’m very proud on how you are a strong supporter of Civil Rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, supporting fund to help women including minorities businesses compete in the economy, pushing for laws to combat against hate-crime to protect minorities, and expressing the need for women to have equal pay.  Pushing to fund renewable energy projects to reduce addiction to oil with gas, working with city services to help clean parks including water resources to make them safe for people to use, and implementing an initiative to encourage businesses to use energy-efficient products to reduce high energy cost is common sense to protect the environment. To improve city life, I like on how you work to push for construction KC Streetcar to help tourist including residents of Kansas City get transportation around downtown to help them get to work in order to reduce traffic congestion, launch Smart City Data platform to help residents of Kansas City to monitor available parking near the streetcar lines including assist them to monitor traffic to know if there are accidents or when roads are closed, and create diversity initiative to help hire women, minorities, and people with disabilities to be part of the city commissions to find ways to improve government services. Your approach on improving the economy like expand on job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop job-skills to help them prepare them for the economy, provide tax-credit to small businesses including local businesses to help them be part of the community, and launch a campaign to help encourage businesses to hire youth, women, minorities, and people with disabilities to work for them is common sense.  On education, I like on how you are very committed to support funds to expand on arts including diversity with history programs to help teach people about the need for diversity including history, expand on special education programs to help students with disabilities’ get educational resources they need, and push for more youth programs with after school programs to help them get help on their assignments or get them involve in recreation programs.  Another thing that I like about your role as mayor is how you are working with law enforcement to find ways to reduce racial profiling to help protect minorities, pushing for a campaign to reduce gun violence, and  expanding funds to help restore historical sites including attractions around Kansas City to improve tourism while make learning a better place.

Mayor James, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  In September 2015, I visited Kansas City, Missouri and I enjoyed visiting the historical sites like the World War 1 Museum, The American Jazz Museum, and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.  In these museums I really liked learning about how World War I started including some of the history of Americans who served in WWI, understand the history of how American Jazz including some musicians helped shaped American culture, and how African Americans made a great difference in baseball when they struggle with dealing with segregation.  Your role as current Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri drives me to continue  my strong interest in learning history with public policy.  My future goals are to continue to learn more history by visiting some sites including museums, understand the importance of making Civil Rights stronger, and many others.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your current role as mayor. I’m very proud on how you are working hard to improve society.  You have inspired me to work hard on my disability, be interested in visiting Kansas City, Missouri, and to continue my strong interest in learning history with public policy.   Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make great achievements, and inspiring me. I wish you well on continuing to make Kansas City, Missouri a great place.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick

  1. I like your blog, it's awesome. I collect autographs too but I don't have as many as you yet. I used to be in pageants ( my last title was Ms Cincinnati in the Miss United States pageant) and originally I was collecting beauty queen autographs because of being in pageants, but after a while I started collecting celebrities and now government officials. Someday I hope to have as many as you. What's funny is that when I was Ms Cincinnati I sent out autographed photos. It is funny to me to sign autographs but also be collecting autographs :p
