Dear District Attorney Gonzalez,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history including social justice. In these subjects, I like to learn the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment form pollution, and have criminal justice reform to help protect people’s rights while reduce crime, and many others. District Attorney Gonzalez, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as District Attorney of Brooklyn, New York to be very inspiring to me.

In November 2017, I was amazed on how you made history on becoming the first Latino to be District Attorney of Brooklyn, New York. In your current role as District Attorney of Brooklyn, New York, I truly appreciate on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, prosecuting people who commit hate-crime to help protect minorities including people who are different, and investigating public places that practice different form of discrimination or violate civil rights legislation. Supporting drug treatment programs to help drug-users get the care they need to reduce drug abuse,  working with law enforcement including the Office of the Brooklyn District Attorney to expand resources to help victims of domestic violence or victims of crime get help on dealing with their trauma,  and expressing the need for funds to improve DNA testing including forensic science to help solve evidence efficiently while reduce sending an innocent person to jail is common sense for criminal justice reform.  Also on criminal justice reform, I like on how you are advocating along with supporting for the need for mental health professionals including social workers to be on call to help people who struggle with mental health or have a disability when they need help, implementing Conviction Review Unit to investigate innocent people who had been sent to prison, and supporting community service for non-violent offenders or no violent juveniles get rehabilitation to reduce re-offending.  Another thing that I like about your work as Brooklyn District Attorney is how you prosecuted after public officials who are corrupt or accepted illegal bribes, went after industries that illegally polluted the environment or violated environmental protection laws, heavily support the need for body cameras on law enforcement officers to help investigate any misconduct, and take away weapons from people who have a domestic violence record.  Supporting educational awareness programs to help educate youth including people about the need to reduce bullying, gun violence, sexual assault, and drug abuse are great ways to help educate people.

District Attorney Gonzalez, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  Your role as District Attorney of Brooklyn, New York gives me some motivation to continue to learn history including social justice.  My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have criminal justice reform to help protect people’s rights while reduce crime and many others.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference for society. I’m very proud on how you are working hard to support civil rights, protect the environment, push for criminal justice reform, and many others.  You have inspired me to work hard on my disability, learn more about your work, and and be motivated to continue to learn history including social justice.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make an impact on society, and inspiring me. I wish you the best to continue to make a great difference.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
