Dear Ms. Chou,

My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have as strong interest in learning history, social justice, and current events. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have social justice to help improve the communities, and many others.  Ms. Chou, the main reason why I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as news reporter/anchor of WRAL-TV to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as a news reporter/anchor of WRAL-TV, , I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights causes by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights and expressing the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination in order to protect minorities including people who are different.  Also I like on how you are a strong supporter of campaign to combat against bullying.  Your approach in the news media like interviewing people about different topics ranging from local politics through other topics, doing hands-on approach with other people in businesses or when they are demonstrating a product to help viewers understand them, and taking the time to listen to citizens of America when they have concerns are great ways for journalism. Another thing that I like about your work as a News Reporter/Anchor of WRAL-TV is how you give tips on healthy lifestyles, reporting on public officials who are corrupt, asking public officials that hard question to hold them accountable, address the need to help people who are poor or who are homeless get the help they need, support emphasizing the need for environmental protection to reduce pollution, and many others. Also another thing to mention is I like on how you heavily advocate for the need for auditing of government agencies including non-profit organizations  to make sure that money isn’t being abused or wasted when they are needed to improve services, heavily emphasize the need for better mental health services to help people who struggle with a mental health or have the illnesses, and support educational awareness about minorities communities.  Besides your work in the news media  I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes to reduce discrimination and heavily advocate for better mental health services to help people who struggle with a mental health.  Also I like on how you use your role as an Asian American to help advocate along with support Asian American including Asian Americans with disabilities’ rights.

Ms. Chou, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts in different settings (social and environmental), and get teased. Also with my disability I have face some challenges on understanding social cues and dealing with social anxiety. Your advocacy along with support for civil rights including people with disabilities’ right causes really inspire me to work hard on my disability. Also being an Asian American with a disability is difficult for me because some Asians including some Asian Americans tease me including get judgmental about me being different from them.  Your continuous commitment to be a strong supporter of the Asian community and advocate for Asian American with disabilities’ rights gives me some inspiration to continue to be proud to be an Asian American when I face struggles in fitting in. Also I enjoy watching you give reports about different current events on Youtube, your social media page, and the WRAL-TV and these things help me learn more about your work.  Your work in the new media helps give me motivation to try my best to learn how society works, use critical thinking when understanding things, continue to learn different subjects, and work on improvements on understanding social situations.  My future goal is to work in different areas to help emphasize the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, expand on social justice to improve communities.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in society and the news media.  You really inspire me to work hard on my disability, be a fan of your work, and learn different topics.  I was wondering if you could please share with me on some of the highlights of being a news reporter/anchor of WRAL-TV  including some advice about working hard on my disability. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me. Please continue to make a great difference for society.

Matt Winick
